Middle Settlement
Lake
Middle Settlement Lake is a beautiful, pristine lake in the Ha-De-Ron-Dah
Wilderness located southwest of Old Forge (see the Names page for
information on the seemingly strange name of this lake). The lake is visited fairly
frequently, especially on the most popular weekends, but nothing like the
High Peaks region. It is definitely worth the easy three mile hike (its easy
once you get past the quarter-mile steep section at the beginning, at
least). I have been to this lake many many times, both in summer and winter,
and I enjoy it just as much every time. To top it all off, there is a neat
rocky outcropping near the lake which offers a decent view over part of the
lake itself and the surrounding countryside, but I will leave its exact
location to those willing to make the effort to find it =)
