Blackfoot
Pond
Blackfoot Pond is a small pond more than five miles from the nearest
trailhead in the rarely visited northern section of the rarely visited
Ha-De-Ron-Dah Wilderness, west of Old Forge. The Pond is accessed by a short
spur trail from the larger East Pond. There is a "mica mine" along
the trail near Blackfoot Pond; it is more of a hole in the ground with
several chunks of mica lying nearby than a mine, but is of course
interesting nonetheless. This remote and pristine pond is not as large as
some of the more popular lakes in the Ha-De-Ron-Dah, but it is more than a
worthwhile trip considering the many opportunities for solitude that one is
afforded along the trail to it.
